Bazhong "Summer Camp" Provides Root-seeking Experience for Over 50 Overseas Chinese Teenagers

The inauguration ceremony of 2019 "China Root-seeking Tour" Summer Camp (Bazhong) was kicked off in the No. 4 Experimental School Affiliated to Sichuan Normal University in Enyang District. The event was sponsored by All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and Sichuan Provincial Returned Overseas Chinese Federation and organized by Bazhong Municipal Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese Enyang District Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and No. 4 Experimental School Affiliated to Sichuan Normal University. The summer camp was organized to enhance overseas Chinese teenagers' understanding of their motherland’s developments their emotional identification with the Chinese culture and the Chinese nation facilitate the exchange between Bazhong teenagers and their overseas Chinese peers Bazhong's opening to the outside world and to display Bazhong's sound image. During the week over 50 overseas Chinese teenagers experienced the traditional culture and fostered cultural exchanges. Let's take a look together!

Day 1

On August 3 the inauguration ceremony of the 2019 "China Root-seeking Tour" Summer Camp (Bazhong) was hosted in the No. 4 Experimental School Affiliated to Sichuan Normal University. Over 50 American-born Chinese teenagers embarked on their "Landscape Corridor · Picturesque Bazhong" tour.

At the inauguration ceremony Yuan Wencong member of the Standing Committee of CPC Bazhong Municipal Committee director of the Unified Front Work Department and chair of the Municipal Labor Union wished teachers and students a happy and fruitful journey. He hoped everyone could feel the natural and humanistic beauty of Bazhong after the trip actively promote the excellent Chinese culture and facilitate the communication between China and foreign countries and act as an envoy for the "Landscape Corridor · Picturesque Bazhong".

The cultural descent has never been cut off. In the ice-breaking game after the inauguration ceremony the campers and local students quickly made the acquaintance filling the entire campus with laughter.

Listening to the narration of "Enyang River in the Morning and Twilight" a story passed down from Sui Dynasty the campers walked on the moss-covered flagging in the millennium-old town followed the footprints left by the Red Army smelled the fragrance of glutinous rice cake stuffed with brown sugar and sesame pancake and enjoyed the unique culture of Bazhong. All participants divided into five groups marked by red blue yellow green and white colors took photos at the scene. In the antique restaurants the campers tasted the specialty "Ten Bowls". In the ancient theatre "Longevity Palace" students tried the covered bowl tea and appreciated the Sichuan Opera. At the scene where the Bazhong Intangible Cultural Heritage "shadow puppetry" was performed campers were impressed by the wisdom of ancient Chinese to harmonize light shadow and sound. The splendid scenes demonstrated the Confucian doctrine for family country and the world and virtues of benevolence righteousness courtesy wisdom and trust.

Day 2

On August 4th the 2019 "China Root-seeking Tour" Summer Camp (Bazhong) continued to be hosted in No. 4 Experimental School Affiliated to Sichuan Normal University where over 50 American-born Chinese teenagers embarked on a one-day adventure.

"I like Chinese painting." "I like paper cutting." In response to requests of the campers the tutors arranged the "Chinese Painting Class" and "Paper-cutting Art Class" respectively which were taught by best teachers of the No. 4 Experimental School Affiliated to Sichuan Normal University.

"It is the hotpot taste that is most unforgettable!" For a visit to Bazhong you can't miss the Sichuan-flavored hotpot. Spicy and pungent with both meat and vegetables hotpot is a must-try culinary option for anyone coming to Sichuan. After a hearty meal one would hear comments like "This is the best hotpot I have ever tried during this tour!".

After appreciating the Chinese culture and tasting the Chinese cuisine campers watched the hit animation Ne Zha. The exciting combat and exquisite special effects have reflected the level of contemporary Chinese animation. After dinner the campers learned how to make pottery by themselves.

The children spent a wonderful day learning about the history and traditional culture tasting the authentic Sichuan hotpot appreciating the best-rated animation from China making pottery by hand and telling all these to their parents waiting earnestly in America for messages from their children. All parents expressed their sincere gratitude to the Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and the No. 4 Experimental School Affiliated to Sichuan Normal University organizers of the summer camp.

Day 3

On August 5th more than 50 American-born Chinese teenagers of the 2019 "China Root-seeking Tour" Summer Camp (Bazhong) visited Guangwu Mountain a UNESCO geopark to enjoy themselves in the "landscape corridor picturesque Bazhong".

It was in the rainy season. On the way to Guangwu Mountain outside the window were green mountains and clear water as well as spectacular waterfalls pretty bridges and houses. The students saw the broken bridges and the collapsed roads caused by mountain torrents. The natural conditions in the area have also explained the bravery optimism and audacity of the Bazhong people.

Safety always comes first. The campers listened carefully to the instructions of the instructor and learned about the precautions when climbing the mountain in rainy season to prepare well for a safe trip. "Guangwu Mountain here we are!"

Along the way the American-born Chinese teenagers and their Bazhong peers travelled together with their hearts growing fonder. Friendship is the best harvest in the journey.

Day 4

August 6 marked the fourth day of the 2019 "China Root-seeking Tour" Summer Camp when over 50 ABC teenagers visited Yanyangchu Museum Huacheng Water Reservoir and Nankan Mountain to appreciate the local landscape and delve into the local culture.
