The construction process of nature reserves within the Geopark is as follows:

In 1986 the People’s Government of Sichuan Province approved the establishment of Nuoshuihe Provincial Scenic Area;

In 1993 the People’s Government of Sichuan Province approved the establishment of Guangwushan Provincial Scenic Area;

In 1997 the People’s Government of Sichuan Province approved the establishment of Guangwushan Provincial Nature Reserve;

In 1999 the People’s Government of Sichuan Province approved the establishment of Dalan Valley and Xiaolan Valley Provincial Nature Reserve;

In 2003 the State Forestry Administration approved the establishment of Micangshan National Forest Park;

In 2004 the State Council approved the establishment of Guangwushan-Nuoshuihe National Key Scenic Area;

In 2004 the State Forestry Administration approved the establishment of Kongshan National Forest Park;

In 2006 Sichuan Provincial Department of Land and Resources approved the establishment of Nanjiang Guangwushan Provincial Geopark and Tongjiang Nuoshuihe Provincial Geopark;

In 2009 the Ministry of Land and Resources approved Guangwushan-Nuoshuihe to be qualified for the construction of National Geopark;

In 2010 the National Tourism Administration officially approved Guangwushan as a National AAAA Scenic Area;

In 2012 the Ministry of Land and Resources officially approved the establishment of Guangwushan-Nuoshuihe National Geopark · Sichuan;

In 2013 Guangwushan-Nuoshuihe National Geopark · Sichuan was officially opened;

In 2014 the National Tourism Administration officially approved the Nuoshuihe Scenic Area as a National AAAA Scenic Area;

In 2015 Guangwushan-Nuoshuihe Geopark launched the application for Global Geopark;

In 2016 in the evaluation organized by the Ministry of Land and Resources the Geopark ranked second and entered the Tentative List of global geoparks submitted by China to UNESCO in 2017;

In 2017 Guangwushan-Nuoshuihe Geopark successfully received the UNESCO experts' field assessment;

In 2018 the 204th meeting of the Executive Board of UNESCO adopted a resolution that Guangwushan-Nuoshuihe Geopark was selected into the Global Geopark Network.

In October 2018 Guangwushan-Nuoshuihe UNESCO Global Geopark was officially opened.

In January 2019 the geoscience tourism brand “Welcome to Bazhong" of Guangwushan-Nuoshuihe UNESCO Global Geopark was officially released.

In October 2020 the Annual Meeting on China's UNESCO Global Geoparks was held in Bazhong Sichuan Province.
